In 2014 the sold out festival hosted 10 plays in 10 site-specific locations across Shoreditch from cafes, to garages, to gardens. These plays were commissioned from ten of the UK’s most exciting writers radically reinterpreted Shakespeare’s characters and brought to life by ten of the London’s most exciting theatre companies. In our festival hub – at The Rose Lipman Building in Haggerston – we challenged our Writer-in-Residence, Annie Jenkins to write 1000 plays in 10 days. Exhausted, she completed her challenge thanks to donations from over 300 members of the public.

Surrounding our 10 plays we invited the writers, companies and academics to join post-show discussions and we hosted 10 workshops on playwriting, directing and adapting Shakespeare for film.

“Shakespeare in Shoreditch is genuinely brilliant. I love a game of guess-the-bard” Nell Frizzell, Journalist
