We are delighted to announce that The Shakespeare in Shoreditch Festival Hub will be hosted at the amazing BL-NK on Curtain Road.
BL-NK, located on Curtain Road in Shoreditch, is a unique, 4,500 Sq ft mixed purpose urban-space that has been created by the London Borough of Hackney to provide a stage that celebrates and supports East London as one of the most exciting, creative, cultural as well as commercial and technological clusters in Europe, if not the world.
Set over three floors, the venue provides versatile and flexible event spaces; a relaxed and friendly café; a 1st floor bar with roof terrace; a gallery space and a number of meeting rooms available to every business based in Hackney and beyond.
From 20th - 30th April BL-NK will be populated with workshops, pop-up performances, post-show discussions, documentaries and film-screenings. You can arrive at BL-NK to collect your tickets and have a drink with friends before setting off across Shoreditch to see the newly commissioned plays.
StoryMap of Hackney
During the festival we invite you to share an anecdote and together create the StoryMap of Hackney. This will bring together plays, performances and your stories about the area to become the future archive of the Shakespeare in Shoreditch Festival. The StoryMap of Hackney is created in partnership with The Creative Exchange.
London's first purpose build theatres, The Theatre and The Curtain were situated on what is now Curtain Road. From 1597 to 1599 The Curtain was the premiere site for The Lord Chamberlain's Men, the company that first performed Shakespeare's plays. The Curtain was the venue for many of Shakespeare's plays including Romeo and Juliet and Henry V.
